It’s 2016? It’s 2016?! It’s 2016.
It occurred to me tonight, while I was sitting on the sofa, eating, wiping the dripping soup off my chin with my flannel pajamas, that maybe I needed to realize that it’s the middle of January, and maybe I needed to get my stuff together. It’s not like I’ve been on vacation for this long, and I’m not giving up on my life or anything, but man WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING? The answer… EVERYTHING! It sounds dramatic, but I’ve kind been letting things just slip past me or I’ve been trying to do too much. I can’t really decide. I haven’t blogged since the END OF SEPTEMBER! That is just not okay. Not only does it just seem lazy, but also, I like to try new things, do something different, figure out solutions to the world’s problems, and share it all with you. It’s my own little version of therapy. Am I really just gonna give up on trying to do it all? No, no, do not be mistaken, that won’t be happening here, I’ve been super busy, that is true but when did I get so busy that I just let everything around me run a’muck?
Towards the end of the year last year, about the time I was in Utah every other week for a month doing very important work things, I kind of have felt like I was trying to burn the candle at both ends, but now after a significant hiatus I’ve come to the realization that the sabbatical needs to end, and I need to get back into the swing of things. Sorry for the extended vacation, I know I kind of just left you all hangin’ there for a while, I assure you there’s great things to come this year, I’ll make sure of it! So… to catch you up on the past couple of months, here’s a rundown of what I’ve been up to, and what’s to come in 2016.
1. Utah, Utah, Utah!
As if one trip across country isn’t enough, I went back and forth to Utah, at least 3 times over the course of 6 weeks or so… If that’s not enough of an excuse to be crazy, I’m not sure what is… As most of you know I travel for work quite a bit these days, and this time I was lucky enough to be in beautiful Park City, Utah, Deer Valley, specifically. The views were breath-taking, and I would highly encourage anyone and everyone to take a vacation there at least once in their life, may I suggest the Montage Deer Valley? When we go on these work trips, we tend to do the same thing over and over again… this time it was a Raclette dinner, I’m all for melted cheese on melted cheese, but I have to admit the third or fourth time I piled my plate with short ribs I thought to myself, “Is this really happening?!?”
2. Mom, Mom, & More Mom
Between trips to Utah, I’ve been hanging out with my mom! She has been working in the Old Town area, so I’ve seen more of her over the past 8 months than I have over the past 8 years! We’ve had lots of laughs and lots of fun. I will admit, it makes me a little homesick… and because of that, I took a very long Christmas vacation this year. Speaking of…
3. Vacation, Vacation, Vacation
This Christmas season, we all spent a lot of time in Yorktown, Texas, doing all things country. I basically lived the Red Dirty Road playlist on Spotify. We did some hunting, fishing, go-carting, fire-pitting and working hard. Okay, you caught me! I didn’t work hard at all. I sat around, read with CoCo, kept my feet warm by the fire pit, and watched daddy and Tyler do all the work! After the farm and a little San Antonio vacationing, I headed to Houston to visit Tyler’s family. We went to the Natural History museum and had a BLAST! If you live in Houston, and you haven’t gone to see the new dinosaur exhibit, you are really missing out! It was beyond amazing! Also… if you’re looking for a great lunch suggestion, check out Les Givral’s, the food was not only the cheapest food I’ve ever had, it was also some of the best.
4. As if I wasn’t busy enough… I have a side business.
The past couple of months have been filled with photo job after photo job. A wedding, babies, and beyond! The wedding was so much fun, and I couldn’t be more grateful to Whisked Away Weddings for suggesting me to the precious bride! If you’re in the D.C. area and are looking for a wedding planner, Lauren is your girl! If a wedding wasn’t enough work for me, I also did more mini sessions this year. You may remember, last year around Christmas time, I posted on an Old Town mom email blast and offered mini sessions for a good price and a quick turnaround. This year, I received emails from all of my families and then some, so of course, I couldn’t let them down, plus is there anything cuter than little kids and holiday pictures? I think not!
5. It’s all about the steps.
Tyler’s sweet family gave me a fitbit for Christmas, so needless to say, the competition has begun. May the best fitbit-er win! Okay… I’ll be honest. Tyler is kicking my butt. But seriously, if you’re contemplating getting one or not… just do it. It’s so fun, and it really does motivate you to get off your butt and take some steps.
So that’s what happened at the end of 2015… the question is, what does 2016 have in store. Honestly, your guess is as good as mine. Here’s a few things I know for a fact…
1. Lots of trips to come!
Get ready for some Phoenix overload next few week, and the week after the week after that. Also, there will be some more Houston and San Antonio adventures thrown in for good measure. Unlike this fall, when I basically moved to Utah, this spring I’ll be all over the place, from California to Florida! Due to all this travel, be patient with me, I might skip a few weeks here and there, blogging on the road is just not my forte! However it does allow for some great inspiration for recipes and projects, and there’s normally a good story or two. If you do find yourself missing me dearly, you can always follow me on the insta or snapchat, you’ll get updates about what I’m doing and how much
fun I’m having work I’m doing.
2. Goal #1 for 2016: Fun DIY Projects!
There’s so many projects on my pinterest page that I want to try/adapt for myself…. Honestly, did any one ever die from too much crafting? I need to craft more, it’s like art class for adulthood and art was always my favorite. Thank you Mrs. Cooley and Mrs. Smith.
3. Goal #2 for 2016: Go somewhere… not for work and that’s not San Antonio/Houston.
I’m not sure where I’m going to go, I just know I want to go somewhere. Any suggestions? I guess I could follow Amy’s lead and head to Thailand or one of the Scandinavian countries, and then again there’s always Antarctica? Yes, the girl went to Antarctica! Get ready for a post coming soon!
4. Get busier… because I’m not busy enough already.
I really want to grow and expand my branding/creative design side business. If you know anyone looking for logo creation, website development, branding expertise, I’m your girl! Send them my way, it’s my goal this year to expand my portfolio and grow my skill set, stretching myself and forcing me to learn something new this year!
5. Goal #3 for 2016: Complete my list of food goals for 2015.
Last year I made a list of things I wanted to learn to cook, and since I’m not perfect, I didn’t get to everything on the list. I’m going to really try to finish that list this year. There were 5 things on the list last year, and there are still four left:
- learn how to make a killer broth, and therefore develop an awesome ramen recipe
- make a top 10 list with 3 spinoffs, and therefore 30 scrumptious go-to recipes. This is inspiration from Ina… I’m sure you’ll hear all about it in a post or two, or 20 to come!
- develop a chocolate cake for two… remember my vanilla cake for two (or one, I don’t judge).
- make clam chowder from scratch…. I’m not really sure why, I think it was from a Mind of a Chef episode or something, but it’s on the list, so I’m doing it!
Who knows… none of this may happen or all of this may happen, regardless, it’s gonna be an adventure! Thanks for being patient with me as I took a 4 month sabbatical. I’m so excited to get back into the swing of things. If there’s anything you want to see me try/blog about this year leave me a comment!
